Emilia – Romagna, with its 22,123 km2, is one of the largest regions of Italy. The territory – bordering the Veneto, Lombardia, Piemonte, Liguria, Tuscany, the Marche and the Republic of San Marino – includes a flat part and a hilly range. Although in recent decades has also been moving industrial activities and services, this region has not abandoned its traditional agricultural vocation: Emilia – Romagna is still, in fact, a prominent position in the cultivation of wheat, fruit, tomatoes and screws. Important is also the livestock activity: pig farms and cattle feed production of tasty meats and fine cheeses – first of all the Parmigiano Reggiano DOP. It goes without saying, therefore, that the region is also famous for its cuisine, genuine and tasty hams, cups, cheese, pasta, ravioli and good wine are the basics of a wine tourism increasingly affirmed. Emilia – Romagna has eight provinces: Bologna, Ferrara, Forlì – Cesena, Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Ravenna, Reggio Emilia and Rimini. Developed around the Piazza Grande and the beautiful San Petronio, Bologna is one of the most picturesque towns, characterized by long streets with arcades, by medieval towers and the warm color of its buildings. The historic University – the oldest in Italy – gives the city’s renowned cultural fervor. The art, however, is not limited only to the capital: auguste Rimini offers evidence of Roman civilization; Ravenna guards – with the complex of S. Vitale, with S. Apollinare Nuovo and S. Apollinaris in Classe – an extraordinary collection of early Christian and Byzantine monuments, Ferrara, Modena and Parma, finally, retain some of the greatest creations of the Romanesque and medieval periods. Emilia – Romagna is also valuable from a naturalistic: includes, in fact, the Regional Park of the Po Delta Developed along the provinces of Ferrara and Ravenna, the area is one of the most important wetlands of Italy and d ‘Europe, a land of great environmental value which, by hosting several species of water birds, is a favorite destination for ornithologists and birdwatchers.
