Comboios Portugal (Portuguese Railways) operates the train from Porto to Faro. You can choose between the high-speed Alpha Pendular, which connects Faro to Porto twice a day, or take the cheaper Intercity train. The latter is only 30 minutes slower.

Alfa Pendular is a fully air-conditioned 6-car electric train. These ultra-modern trains tilt into curves to reach 220 km/h. It features both first and second-class seats as well as a cafe bar. If you opt for the first class, you can order a meal during the reservation process. All trains guarantee complimentary WiFi and power sockets at all seats.

CP's Intercity trains are the second-rank express service, offering first- and second-class accommodation, a cafe bar, and free WiFi, with power sockets available in some first-class seats. 

Reservations are obligatory on all trains. When traveling with CP, children under 12 get a 50% discount on full-price fares, youths under 25 are eligible for a 25% discount, and seniors over 65 can enjoy a 50% discount. No discount is available when booking Promo fares. 

Porto Campanha, though less known than Sao Bento station, is the city's main train terminal. The station is served by metro lines A, B, C, F and bus lines 205, 206, 207, and 400. It features ticket offices, waiting rooms, vending machines, luggage storage, underground parking, a cafe, and bathrooms. 

You will arrive at the Faro train station, only a 14-minute walk from the city center. A bus station is close by serving lines 1, 3, 16, and 18. If you do not feel like walking, you never reach the city and the beach. Another easy option would be to take an Uber or a classic taxi. The Faro Train Station is just a 14-minute walk from the city center. In the station, you will find waiting for areas, bathrooms, ticket offices, public phones, and cafe shops.

Faro is known for its beautiful beaches, but the old town, narrow cobblestone streets, quaint cafes, and restaurants are all worth exploring. Other top attractions include the Cathedral of Sao Francisco, the Chapel of Bones, and Santa Clara Church. You can also take a boat ride along Ria Formosa, sunbathe at Farol Beach or visit the Museum of Algarve in Faro Castle.
