Amtrak, the largest passenger railroad service in the U.S., operates the train from Orlando to Tampa. The two cities are connected by the Silver Service line, composed of two trains, the Silver Meteor and Silver Star.

The Silver Service is a long-distance Amtrak service connecting New York and Miami and serving many smaller cities, including Orlando and Tampa. All trains have sleeping cars, although you may not be interested in this option since the train ride is six hours on average. Both Silver Service trains have Viewliner sleeping cars, with the possibility of booking a smaller roomette or a more comfortable bedroom. Still, unlike the Silver Star, the Silver Meteor has a dining car, which also means that the sleeping cars get inclusive room service. 

If you opt for the sleeping car, keep in mind that you need to book the entire unit, whether alone or with someone. Also, the coach has comfortable reclining seats, perfect for getting some shut-eye, so give it a chance.

In Orlando, there are two Amtrak intercity stations:

1. The central Orlando Amtrak station, 1400 Sligh Blvd, is a beautiful historical building from the 1920s that offers the convenient service of checked baggage and free overnight parking. Unfortunately, it could be better connected, especially if you are coming from Disney World; in that case, the Kissimmee station would be a better option. The city center, Universal studio, and Disney World are approximately 10 miles away, but the only way to reach them is by taxi (Uber, Lyft)
2. The Silver service and the local Sun Rail serve the Kissimmee station. There is no parking available, but several car rental companies are at the station.

In Tampa, you will end your journey on the only Amtrak station in town, Union Station, located at 601 N Nebraska Ave, in the Channel district. The station is simple, conveniently close to several car rental agencies, and has a parking lot. The Amtrak Thruway Bus serves the station, and the Greyhound buses serve the bus terminal five miles away. 

The name of Tampa is most likely of Native American origin. It was under Spanish rule for a long time and was abandoned until the U.S. bought the territory from the Spanish in 1821 and established the military outpost, Fort Brooke. Cuban and Spanish cultures always strongly influenced this Mexican Gulf harbor city, especially its cuisine. You can try one of many fusion restaurants in the Riverwalk area, or visit one of several aquariums and Zoos. While it is a city of post-modern skyscrapers, Spanish and Cuban architecture is present in historic landmarks like the Tampa theater.
