General information about Milan Central Station

Milan Central station is the most important train station in the city and is the second largest and busiest station in Italy. It has 24 tracks and about 120 million passengers pass through this station every year. It is located in the heart of the city and is characterized by majestic and imposing architecture that make it unique in its style. This station is the main hub for high speed trains and is the starting point for most connections with the rest of Europe.


You can reach the central station in different ways: metro, tram, bus or taxi. With the subway is very simple, you need to get off at the Centrale FS stop, reachable with the line M2 (green) and the line M3 (yellow).

With the tram it can be reached with the lines 5, 9 and 10.


Malpensa Airport

Malpensa can be reached from the central station by bus, train or taxi. The bus is the cheapest option and takes about 50 minutes without making intermediate stops. The cost of the ticket is 8 €. The Malpensa Express train is the fastest option because it only takes 40 minutes. The price of the ticket is €13 for adults with discounts for children. While the taxi is the most expensive option, about 95 € and the duration depends on the traffic and the time of departure.

Linate Airport

To get to Linate airport from Central Station you have to take either the shuttle bus or a taxi. The buses leave from Piazza Luigi Savoia, just outside the Central Station, and make only an intermediate stop at Piazzale Dateo. It takes about 25 minutes and the one-way ride costs 5 €, children 2.50 €, while if you choose the option round trip 9 €. Tickets can be purchased on board or from vending machines in the subway. Outside the Central Station you can find the taxi station, or you can also book by calling the following numbers: 02.6969, 02.5353. The cost varies from 15 to 20 €, but if you are a group of 4 people you can divide the price and then it becomes the most advantageous option.

Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport

The Orio Shuttle is the bus that connects the Central Station with Orio al Serio Airport. It takes about 50 minutes and the ticket costs 5 € one way, 9 € round trip.

Ticket office

The Trenitalia ticket office is located on the ground floor of the station and is open every day from 5.50 to 22.20. The Italo ticket office is also located on the ground floor, next to the Trenitalia ticket office, and is open from 06:15 to 21:00. Also on the ground floor you can find Freccia Viaggi, a service dedicated to Trenitalia customers where specialized staff helps passengers in buying tickets.

Luggage storage

The luggage room is located on the ground floor and is managed by KiPoint. It is open every day from 6 am to 11 pm. In this place you can leave suitcases or bags in custody while you go to eat or do some shopping. The rates are for each piece of luggage € 6.00 for the first 5 hours and € 1 for each additional hour from 6 to 12 and € 0.50 for each subsequent hour.

Car rental

In the station you can also rent a car and the service is offered by Avis, Sixt, Maggiore and B-Rent.

Bank and Exchange

Inside the station there are several ATMs where you can withdraw, if you can find one on each floor. Forexchange is the service that offers the possibility to change your currency into foreign currency at affordable prices and the office is open daily from 7:30 to 22:30.


The toilets are located both near platform 22 and on the mezzanine floor and are open from 06.00 to 22:00. Cost of service: € 1.00

Italian Post

Inside the station is a post office that offers the same quality and service as a regular post office and is open Monday to Friday from 8:20 to 19.05 and Saturday until 12:35.

Railway Police

The Milan Central Railway Police Office is located near track 21, offers support in the station but also on board and is open 24 hours a day.

Waiting areas

The waiting areas are located throughout the station, in the Galleria di Testa, in the mezzanine floor and on the ground floor. The Freccia Club is reserved for CartaFRECCIA holders, it is located near tracks 20 and 21 and is open every day from 5:40 to 21:00 The Italo Club Lounge is located on the first floor and is open every day from 6:45 to 20:30.

Lost and found

Lost and found is a service managed by the Municipality of Milan. The office is located in Via Friuli 30 and is open from Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 16:00.


There are two car parks outside the station: one in Piazza Luigi di Savoia and the other in Piazza IV Novembre. In both you can stop for 15 minutes free of charge otherwise the rate is 2.50 € per hour or 25 € per day. They are open 7 days a week from 6 to 24.


Surely the first thing to see are the Indro Montanelli gardens which are only 15 minutes walk from the Central Station, precisely in the Porta Venezia area. They are also known as the gardens of Porta Venezia and are the oldest in the city. They are definitely the best way to relax in the Central Station area and stroll through the tree-lined avenues of this park. Inside there are many green areas where you can lie down or have a snack in peace. Or if you take the metro in just 15 minute you arrive in Piazza del Duomo, where you can admire the undisputed symbol of Milan.
