Firenze Santa Maria Novella is the central station of Florence, the most important of the city and the fourth in Italy. There are 19 tracks inside the station and there are about 400 trains a day, from high speed to regional trains. The station is located in the center and you can reach the main tourist destinations of the city on foot, such as the Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo and the Galleria dell'Accademia.

Firenze Santa Maria Novella station is located in the historical centre and can be reached by tram, bus or taxi. To reach the station by car you must be careful of restricted traffic areas, as it is located in the center not all areas are accessible.

How to reach the airport from the station of Firenze Santa Maria Novella

To get to Amerigo Vespucci airport from Florence Central you can use various ways, taxi, rental car or bus. In front of the station, near the taxi area, you can take the bus and the ticket costs €6 one way and €10 return. The service is available only from 6:00 to 23:30 and the journey takes about 25 minutes. Tickets can be purchased directly on the bus, just ask the driver. If you want to travel more comfortably or if you have to leave before 6 or after 23 is better to use the taxi. The cost depends on the duration of the trip which can change depending on the traffic, but usually there are fixed rates, 22 € on weekdays and 24 € on summer days. It is also possible to reach Florence Central from Bologna airport with the Apennine Shuttle which takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Ticket office

The Trenitalia ticket office is located on the ground floor and is open every day from 06:00 to 21:00. You can buy regional, national and international tickets. The Italo ticket office is always on the ground floor next to the Trenitalia ticket office and is open from 07:00 to 21:10. In addition, throughout the station are located automatic machines where you can buy tickets.

Luggage storage

The luggage storage service is offered by KiPoint and allows passengers to leave their luggage in custody while they can eat or do some shopping. The cost is 6,00 € for the first 5 hours, 1 € for each additional hour from 6a to 12a and 0,50 € for each hour after 12a.

Arrow Club and Italo Lounge

Inside the Central Station of Florence there are both the Freccia Club Lounge and the Italo Club Lounge. The Freccia Club Lounge is located on the ground floor and is open every day from 6:30 to 21:30. Entrance is reserved for Gold ARROW CARD holders and for Executive and Business ticket holders. The Italo Club Lounge is located on the ground floor of the station and is open every day from 07:15 to 20:30. This area is a place of welcome where you can buy tickets, get assistance and information from the hostesses and stewards present.


The Santa Maria Novella car park is accessible from Piazza Adua and has 35 parking spaces. The car park is open 24 hours a day every day and can be used free of charge 15 minutes, after the rate is € 3 per hour for cars and € 0.50 for motorcycles. Outside the station there are car rental counters and you can get there in a few minutes on foot. In via Borgo there is the Avis/Budget counter, while the Hertz office is in via Borgo Ognisanti.

Bank and Exchange

Inside the station there are ATMs where you can withdraw. There are also 2 Forexchange counters, one on the ground floor and the other on the -1, open every day where you can change money.


The toilets at Firenze Santa Maria Novella station are located on the ground floor and are open from 06:00 to 24:00. The service costs € 1.00.

Leaving the station of Santa Maria Novella you find yourself right in the center, in just 5 minutes walk you arrive at the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, a memory of the Gregorian calendar. Inside you can find masterpieces by great artists such as Giotto and Brunelleschi. Always a few steps from the station you can find the Duomo, built in the thirteenth century and certainly worth a visit inside, better to book in advance because usually the queue to enter is endless.
